Have you ever been stopped in your tracks by a gorgeous sunset? Maybe it was the way a movie left you feeling, so in love or grateful. Perhaps a small child smiled at you or said something that made your heart seem to leap. Or no doubt, you’ve stood atop a great mountain and seen a magnificent view that takes your breath away.
Whatever the object was of that moment, you experienced beauty in some form. It scares me to think where we would be without those moments of transcendence that connect our senses with something deeper in our hearts. Those moments help remind us that we have an unbelievably creative and deeply sensitive Maker, and it’s because we’re created in His image that we respond to His creation in ways deeper than appreciation. In fact, sometimes beauty moves us in a profoundly spiritual way.
For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
God created us in His image and for that reason we also create. Songs, paintings, mosaics, dance, sculpture, short film, and photography are a few of the ways our artists reflect their legacy of creation. Whether leading worship in our Gathering or showing at our gallery, art is our way of taking a deep breath in the wonder, glory, and beauty of our God.
